RunFlat tires

Run Flat tires are designed to remain functional for a short time after the tire punctures while driving. If your car tire punctures, there is no need to stop. Continue driving (at reduced speed) to the nearest vulcanizer to change the tire. The picture next shows how it is a standard tire, and what RunFlat looks like when it is inflated and when it is inflated.

Run Flat tires also reduce the risk of a tire "explosion" due to their unique construction.

These tires have additionally reinforced sides that support the car when a tire bursts. With normal tires, air is the main and only credit for support, so it is clear that in the event of a flat tire, the air will "escape" and the tire will be completely deflated. Run Flat tires have strong inserts in the sidewalls that support the weight of the car even when there is no air in the tire itself.

When the Run Flat tire punctures, you can continue driving at a speed of 50 to 90 km / h for an additional 150-300 km, depending on the tire manufacturer and the load of the vehicle itself.

More and more manufacturers are putting Run Flat tires on new cars. Therefore, when you buy a new car, e.g. BMW or MINI, you will also get four Run Flat tires. This also means that you will not have a spare tire or tire repair equipment as mandatory equipment in the car.

If your car was purchased with Run flat tires already fitted, it is possible to change the tires and fit four standard tires to the vehicle. However, it should be borne in mind that you do not have a spare wheel and tire repair equipment in the luggage compartment, so take care of that as well.

We do not recommend replacing Run Flat tires with standard tires. This change will affect the handling of the vehicle. However, some opt for such changes for several reasons, namely: standard tires are cheaper than Run Flat tires, it is easier to get standard tires, some think that standard tires are more comfortable to drive and still many vulcanizers do not have the equipment to work with Run Flat tires.

If you are considering buying Run Flat tires for a vehicle that was previously equipped with standard tires, you should pay attention to the impact of the tires on the vehicle trap. Due to the firmer construction, the ride on Run Flat tires will not be the same as on standard tires.

Each manufacturer provides special labels for their Run Flat technology. Some of them are:
ZP - Zero Pressure - Michelin;
SSR - Self Supporting Runflat - Continental;
ROF - Run On Flat - Dunlop and Goodyear;
RUN FLAT - Pirelli;
RFT - Bridgestone;
HRS - Hankook Runflat System.
